DA Mid South is a locally owned and operated security dealer that has enjoyed an excellent reputation in the Greater Houston area since 1978.
We began out of Memphis, Tennessee in 1978 as an office of Distribution Associates (DA), which is centralized in Boston, Massachusetts. DA was the first company to use continuous surveillance cameras in financial institutions, as early as 1957, taking photos of all banking transactions. Any transaction the bank thought questionable then could be processed by a DA lab, and a photo sent to the bank's security department. The company successfully grew from the 1960's through the 1980's into more than thirty offices nationwide.
In 1976, DA hired Richard Gunn to open a new office in western New York. In 1982, he was transferred to Houston's DA Mid South branch, which had opened in 1980.
In the mid-1980's, DA Mid South began to market closed circuit television video (CCTV) products as an alternative to its film camera systems. CCTV systems were so successful in the financial industry, the market expanded to include manufacturing facilities, office complexes, hospitals, high-rise buildings, retail stores, and etc. The success of these CCTV systems led the way for installation of access control, burglar alarm systems, fire control, intercom systems, and later the integration of the above technology.
In 1987, all stock in the Houston office was transferred to Richard Gunn. DA Mid South is not the same company that once distributed the large volume of film, film products, and film services. Although we still provide the excellent service for which DA is known, and therefore proudly retain our association with DA and the DA name. We have grown and learned much from the migration of 16mm film cameras to the fully integrated security systems of today.
In June 2007, Richard Gunn elected to sell the assets of D/A Mid South, Inc. to Rockley Interests, Inc. Rockley Interests, Inc. dba DA Mid South and James E. Bartley, its CEO, moved DA Mid South to its new, larger location to accommodate DA Mid South's growth. We are now in our own 6400 sq ft facility located at 10418 Rockley Road, Houston, Texas 77099 |
