Mid-South began out of Memphis, TN in 1978 as an office of Distribution
Associates (D/A) in Boston. Distribution Associates was the first
company to use continuous surveillance cameras in financial institutions.
D/A used these cameras as early as 1957 to take photos of banking
transactions. The company successfully grew from the 1960’s through the 1980’s into more than 30 offices nationwide. In 1978 D/A opened an office in Houston (D/A Mid-South) and began to market closed circuit television video (CCTV) products as an alternative to film camera systems. They were so successful with CCTV in the financial industry they expanded the market to include manufacturing facilities, office complexes, hospitals, high rise buildings, retail stores, etc. The success of these CCTV systems led the way for installation of access control, burglar alarm systems, fire control, intercom systems and the integration of these technologies. D/A Mid-South is now independent of Distribution Associates and is wholly owned by Richard Gunn. |
